shamrock.gif (6435 bytes) Bi-monthly Irish Ceili

Following on the success of the annual Irish Dance weekends organised by Paul Wayper and Kate Armstrong, the MFS will present an Irish céilí (or ceilidh if you're an old-talker) on the second Saturday of odd-numbered months, starting on 12 July. (The second occasion, on 13 September, would be a grand warmup for the Turning Wave Festival at Gundagai a few days later!)

The céilithe will be held from 7:30-10:30 pm at the Canberra Senior Citizens' Centre, Turner (you don't have to be a Senior) [Mapref K9].

The "bring a plate" tradition will be upheld, but on a roster basis: surnames A-K in July, L-Z in September.

Go here for the latest available online edition.

Or look for published back issues on the Catalogue page.

The Merry Muse The place to be on a Friday night is the Merry Muse - the Monaro Folk Society's own performance venue, housed at the White Eagle Polish-Australian Club, David St, Turner [Mapref H9]. Good music, good tucker, and a bar.

The Merry Muse hosts an impressive lineup of performers - a mix of locals and visitors from all parts of Australia and the world. And it also gives an opportunity for aspiring artists to work in front of a mostly live audience, through the "walkup" programme.

Most of the events are concert performances, but the first Friday each month is Settlers' Night. This starts as a musicians' session, exploring traditional Australian music, and ends with a dance workshop to that music. Drop-in musicians and tyro dancers are all welcome.

The Merry Muse is like having your very own local folk festival all year round!!

For details, check the Calendar page or go to the Merry Muse website.
