The 39th annual Colonial Ball was held on Saturday 28th September 2019 at the Albert Hall in Canberra. We’d love to share your photos of theBall, so if you have photos you would be prepared to share, please email them to ua.gro.kloforanom@llablainoloc and we’ll add them to this page.

Dress for the Ball was Colonial / early 1900’s evening dress wear, or after five – see also the theme below.

Welcome drinks and hors d’oeuvres from 7:30pm with dancing from 8:00pm to midnight, including a fully catered supper.

ADDITIONAL EVENTS IN ASSOCIATION WITH THE BALL

 

COME AND TRY BUSH DANCING – a FREE introduction to bush dancing for anyone 12 years or older.

The Monaro Folk Society is offering all Canberrans the chance to dance at the iconic Albert Hall, at a free “Come and Try Bush Dancing” class.

The class will be held on Saturday September 28, from 10.30am to midday – doors open 10.15am, and provides an introduction to Bush Dancing for anyone who has never danced, or has done other dance styles.

Our expert teacher will introduce you to Bush Dancing with an easy session of instruction and fun dances. All to live music from our society musicians.

Come alone, or bring your partner, friends or family (suitable for ages 12 upwards – no upper limit!). Wear loose, light, comfortable clothing, preferably layered for easy warmth regulation, and flat soled, smooth or non-grippy shoes (clean soles and no high heels to protect the beautiful wood floor).

CANBERRA MANDOLIN ORCHESTRA CONCERT – enjoy an afternoon concert before the Ball, at Albert Hall, starting 2.00pm. The theme is “After The War” and the concert will bring you music brought to Australia after 1945. POST BALL PICNIC – come and enjoy the splendor of Canberra’s annual Floriade Festival and catch up with other Ball attendees. From 11am until 2pm (or stay later if you wish) on Sunday 29 September at the Amphitheater in Commonwealth Park – click here for location map. Self catering, but any leftovers from the Ball will be brought along too.
